Do you have Windows 10? Update it if you do not want to be "hijacked" by the computer

If you are a Windows 10 user , update your computer right now. A vulnerability in Cortana , the digital assistant of the system, leaves your computer unprotected against attacks from cybercriminals and can "hijack" your PC even when it is blocked. This security flaw has been discovered by researchers at McAfee , one of the largest cybersecurity companies in the world, who have found that through this "bug" can be injected from malicious code (computer viruses) to, directly, remove you Control the computer and access all your information.

This vulnerability is given by the configuration that, by default, brings the digital assistant, which is activated only by saying " Hi Cortana ", even with the device blocked. It does not have any voice recognition system, so any person can approach and access through Cortana to your computer just by saying those words. From there, as the system is connected to indexed files to answer questions and requests from users, it is possible to insert a USB drive and download the malicious code directly to the computer. Although it is necessary that the attacker be physically with the computer, MicrosoftIt has already released an update to prevent possible attacks, which can disable the entire team.

The files can be executable files or Powershell scripts that allow to carry out different actions, such as installing viruses or removing software. It is also possible to change the Windows 10 password , which would take away control of the computer and could mean its "hijacking" (with all the information you have inside).

From this Tuesday a patch is available to solve this vulnerability through the last update of Windows 10 . For greater security , it is recommended to deactivate the virtual assistant of the blocking screen, accessing it from the « Start » menu . There you will see the Cortana icon , which you have to click on. In the " Talk to Cortana " option , look for " Lock screen " and deactivate the selection in the box.
