IBM will hire 25,000 employees in the US in the next four years
The announcement comes before the Trump meeting with technology industry leaders, where Jeff Bezos from Amazon, Tim Cook from Apple, Satya Nadella from Microsoft and Elon Musk from Tesla are expected.
Technology giant IBM has announced that it will hire 25,000 people in the United States over the next four years, a day before President-elect Donald Trump meets with technology industry leaders.
Some 6,000 of them will be hired in 2017, said IBM president Ginni Rometty in an opinion piece published in the USA Today newspaper.
IBM, which in recent years undertook a restructuring of its activities, will invest $ 1 billion in employee training and development over the next four years, Rometty said.
"We are hiring because the nature of our work is evolving and because of this many of those jobs are also difficult to fill," Rometty said, noting that many industries are being modified by data science and cloud computing.
"The jobs that are created demand new skills, which in turn requires new approaches in education, training and recruitment," he said.
Rometty is a member of the Trump Policy and Strategy Forum, a group of American business leaders focused on driving economic growth and employment.
The news of IBM's new jobs comes before the expected meeting between the Republican president-elect and the leaders of the big technology companies.
Among those expected to attend the meeting are Jeff Bezos of Amazon, Tim Cook of Apple, Satya Nadella of Microsoft and Elon Musk of Tesla and SpaceX, according to US media.
