Samsung considers a "victory" the ruling in his favor against Apple

The Supreme Court of the United States exempts the South Korean company from paying 372 million euros for allegedly plagiarizing mobile components

Samsung Electronics has celebrated as a "victory" the decision of the Supreme Court of the United States that has exempted him from paying 399 million dollars (372 million euros) to Apple for the alleged plagiarism of components for mobile phones.

The ruling, issued on Tuesday, "is a victory for Samsung and all those who promote creativity, innovation and fair competition in the market," the South Korean company said in a brief statement from its headquarters in Seoul.

Samsung described the ruling as a "historic decision" and expressed its gratitude for the support received "in our fight to guarantee a legal environment that rewards invention and encourages innovation," according to the statement.

Investors in the Seoul Stock Exchange also reacted positively to the ruling, where shares of Samsung Electronics revalued 1.43 percent at the end of the session.

The US Supreme Court dismissed Apple's lawsuit on Tuesday, claiming that Samsung made a profit by copying parts of the patented design of its iPhones.

The judges considered that the South Korean company should not pay the profits obtained from its eleven phone models because the alleged plagiarism only responds to a very small part of the devices.

Battle of patents

Samsung and Apple have maintained since 2011 a legal battle for the patents of mobile phones that has taken them to courts around the world and has made them spend millions of dollars.

In the US, the company based in Cupertino (California) denounced the South Korean in 2011 for plagiarizing the appearance of their mobile devices, and in 2012 a federal jury gave the reason to Apple to ensure that his rival had copied the design of some devices in models like the Galaxy S II.

As a result of the litigation, a court ordered Samsung to pay Apple an indemnity of 930 million dollars (867 million euros), of which it already paid more than 548 million dollars (511 million euros).
