The Vice President of the Government considers it necessary to "take seriously" the privacy of users on the Internet

The Vice President of the Government, Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría, has deemed it necessary to "take seriously" the privacy and security of users on the Internet and has underlined the Spanish Executive's commitment to regulate "cold" this issue so that their rights are protected.

Sáenz de Santamaría has shown this way at the closing of the Annual Conference of the Association of Spanish Newspaper Publishers (AEDE), where he referred to the announcement he made on December 1, at his appearance in the Constitutional Committee of Congress, of a law to guarantee the rights of citizens on the Internet and with which they can combat threats and harassment in the network.

"We have to go from the scheme of protection and guarantee of rights in analog to the protection and guarantee of rights in digital," said the vice president. In his opinion, citizens have to regain control of their privacy and the security of their communications.

And for this reason, for the Government, it is key, as he said, his commitment to the management of massive data, and hence the creation of a specific Ministry, such as Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda, directed by Álvaro Nadal, to "consolidate the exit of the crisis with a new productive model that also has a great social impact ".

The vice president recalled the initiatives that the Government is promoting in relation to big data (a concept that refers to the storage of large amounts of data), such as smart cities or the improvement of municipal and local management.

The management of the big data supposes, in his opinion, "great benefits", but also "great challenges" since it increases the risk of "unwanted access" to the data, and therefore carries with it a risk to privacy and rights of the individuals.
