Tesla autopilot could have Samsung seal
The South Korean will sell semiconductors and screens for autonomous vehicles of the car
It is not the first time that rumors of alliance between Tesla and Samsung are heard, maybe it is not the last either. Last August, it was rumored that Samsung SDI, the subsidiary of the South Korean mobile manufacturer, was chosen by Elon Musk to build the new Tesla Model 3 batteries.
Only 137 characters were enough on Twitter for Elon Musk to deny that information and cause losses of 580 million dollars to Samsung SDI. "I would like to clarify that Tesla works exclusively with Panasonic for the cells of the Model 3, the articles that say otherwise are erroneous," Musk wrote in his profile.
Now by the end of 2016, the paths of both companies are coming together again. Electronics Times publishes this Friday the possibility that Samsung is the main supplier of the chips and displays needed for the autopilot of Tesla models.
At the moment, both Tesla and Samsung have not ruled on this information. The South Korean continues its commitment in the automobile market. It already has the presence of Samsung SDI as the sixth battery manufacturer, with customers such as Chrysler, BMW or Volkswagen.
Last month, the Seoul-based company paid $ 8 billion for Harman International Industries, a US company specializing in the design and improvement of vehicle connectivity, to strengthen its position in the sector.
