The OCU criticizes the "big difference" between the real internet speed and the promised by the operators
The consumer association ensures that users with ADSL technology obtain an average of 50% of the speed indicated as contracted
The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has criticized the "great difference" that exists between the speed promised by operators and the real speed in Internet access contracts, as shown by the data obtained in about 8,000 measurements taken to out by the association.
The OCU launched a month ago the campaign 'Give me the speed I pay' to claim that the speed of Internet offered by the operators is guaranteed, which included the possibility for users to make measurements of their speed through a tool made available for the organization.
Taking into account those services in which at least 50 users have participated, the OCU emphasizes that in those with ADSL / VDSL technology, an average of only 50% of the speed indicated as contracted is obtained.
In the case of connections via fiber / cable, the measurements made by Internet users with the OCU tool suggest that the situation is better when speeds up to 86% of the speed promised by the operator are achieved.
Despite the best overall results from the measurements made on fiber optic lines, in the lines where the promised download speed is higher, that is, 300 megabytes, the differences between real and contracted speed is very significant , because it only reaches 60% of what was promised.
Obliged to report the actual speed
This month about 8,000 speed measurements have been made, of which 41% have been on ADSL / VDSL lines and 55% on Optical Fiber / cable. Of these, 38% of users are Movistar customers, 21% of Vodafone-Ono, 14% of Jazztel and 11% of Orange.
For the association, these data confirm the need for operators to be obliged to inform users, before hiring, of the actual speed that their line supports and that they guarantee at least 80% of that real speed.
Therefore, encourages Internet users to join your campaign through its Movilízate platform and make measurements in order to sustain with real data requests for regulatory change that will be transferred to the authorities.
