Amazon tests a new store concept without boxes
«Detects when the products are taken from the shelves or are returned and stores the code in a virtual shopping cart», the company advances
Amazon revealed that it will open a new retail store without boxes. At the store, which will be located in Seattle (Washington State, Northwest), customers will be able to fill shopping baskets and leave, charging the cost of their invoice to the accounts they have with the American online retail giant.
Amazon Go is tested in a single physical store with Amazon employees and will open to the public next year. It is a "boxless purchase experience that is possible by the same type of technologies used in autonomous automobiles: computer vision, fusion sensor and deep understanding," says the website of the Internet sales emporium.
"Our 'Just Leave' technology detects when products are taken from the shelves or are returned and stores the code in a virtual shopping cart When you specify the purchase you can leave the store, and soon after, we will charge your account from Amazon and we'll send you a receipt. "
The 170-square-meter Seattle store sells a variety of food products, including bread, cheeses and ready-to-go food, as well as Amazon packages, which contain home-cooking products. So far, Amazon has not clarified if it will extend this model with more physical stores or offer its technology to other companies selling to the public.
