Madrid, Paris and Mexico City will say goodbye to diesel cars in 2025
The three capitals aim to improve air quality for their citizens
Madrid, Paris and Mexico City have a common goal: to end diesel in 2025. This is the agreement reached by the councilors of these three cities at the Mayors' Summit held on Thursday, as part of an agreement to improve the air of their cities.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the three cities have a serious problem with the level of air pollution in their cities. Therefore the mayors of the three capitals Anne Hidalgo, Manuela Carmena and Miguel Angel Mancera have agreed to prohibit the circulation of diesel vehicles in their cities from 2025.
This is an unacceptable global crisis and how the mayors are determined to act, says the document signed at the Summit. Therefore, Madrid, Paris and Mexico City are already working on promoting measures to promote sustainable mobility.
Among the proposals are to encourage the use of bicycles and public transport over the car, as well as the development of green buildings and the transition to renewable energy sources.
The coalition was born in 2005, which already has more than 90 cities, to fight against climate change. This year they have met in Mexico City to work to comply with the Paris Climate Summit Agreement not to exceed the global temperature increase by 1.5 degrees centigrade.
