Nokia will return to the smartphone market in the first half of 2017

HMD hopes to become a "significant" player in the market thanks to the prestige of the brand

Nokia will return to the world market of smartphones in the first half of 2017 with the launch of the first devices with the brand and the Android operating system of the Finnish company HMD, which aims to become a "significant" player in the sector in the next years.

HMD began its operations on Thursday, December 1, six months after the new company signed a strategic agreement with Nokia to exclusively use the brand in mobile phones and tablets for the next ten years.

Speaking to Europa Press, the CEO of HMD, Arto Nummela, stressed that a launch like HMD is not common in new companies in the smartphone market, since it will benefit from the first day of the strong presence global and the cash flow that gives it its leading position in the basic telephony business.

In order to take advantage of this global presence and become a "significant" player in the sector in the coming years, HMD has created an "absolutely unique" system for its new smartphones that incorporates "the best in the industry" in order to develop an "amazing" Nokia device portfolio.

Thus, he added that this is possible thanks to the team of experts that form the company and to the strategic agreements reached in the long term both with Google to use the Android operating system and with FIH, a subsidiary of Hon Hai / Foxconn Technology, which will be the manufacturer of the devices.

He also highlighted the close collaboration with Nokia, which is on the board of the company but not part of its shareholding, which goes beyond the license to use the brand exclusively for ten years, a period they trust be able to expand.

Recognition of the Nokia brand

On the other hand, Nummela has claimed the goal of making smartphones with the Nokia brand a "global" business, both for the platform that supposes its current business of basic telephones and for the relevance of the brand. "There is nobody on the planet that we do not know," he remarked.

The marketing director of HMD, Pekka Rantala, has ensured that they are aware that they must work to reach consumers day after day, but he has stressed that the brand's reputation is a "fantastic base" on which to build his business.

In this regard, he pointed out that according to the studies they have carried out in recent months around the world Nokia is a brand known for its reliability and to which are linked aspects such as quality, ease of use and simplicity. In addition, it has influenced the importance of its design in the market.

Alternative in the market

Also, Nummela has shown confidence that Nokia smartphones will be "an alternative for all consumers", as it is not an "elitist" brand and will also offer "reliable and offer a great experience" to customers in a market with many actors offering many models with hardly any differences.

Regarding Spain, the company's executives have pointed out that it will be an important market for the company given that it is a country with a strong presence of Android devices and in which they have proven that there is "love for the Nokia brand".

In order to reach these consumers, the company has already contacted many customers in the countries and has shown its intention to offer its products through both operators and retailers.

HMD has announced that it will invest some 500 million dollars (471 million euros) in the promotion of its brand in the next three years, but has also relied on the help that will involve working with its partners and especially the relevance in networks, who have received very well the announcement of their return to the smartphone market.

Specifically, the president of HMD, Florian Seiche, has influenced the good reception they have had from their partners in the meetings held in all parts of the world, of those who have received an "overwhelming feed-back" due in large part to their "love for the brand" and his desire to see it again in the smartphone market.
